I just thought that VoIP might be a nice way to play War of the Ring, as well as other games online. You´d have to completely trust your opponent when it comes to dice rolls and card draws, but c´est la vie....
This would enable you to play out the game without having to return to type up stuff every few seconds.
What do you think? Viable?

You just need a script on a website that creates dice rolls and sends them (via e-mail, a messenger or automatic posts in a forum). This works quite good. A website I frequently visit already held a 40k- fun-torunament twice with such a script (results were sent via mail). It would also be possible to have all cards online with a script, like two virtual card decks. But that would be a lot more difficult to create.

Well. Yes, you could do dice rolls with the computer, that´s no problem at all. However, it´d be bothersome.
Then we´d have the hunt tiles and the cards and other random elements - one could still cheat on those.
I know there´s a Cyberboard gamebox, but it´s not really convenient....so in the end, you´d still need to trust your opponent.

What hardware or software does one need for this? I have a cable connection-would the opponent have to have the same type of connection if you use it?

A friend and I have been playing by Cyberboard and it works quite well. There is still a level of trust, but if you are really interested in seeing different strategies I don't think it's a big deal.

Of the three voice programs I've tried, Teamspeak, Skype, I forget the other one. Skype has the best voice quality on my computer. Plus it was the easiest one to setup.

I am interesting in finding oponents online. I cannot use cyberboard because I have a Mac, but I'd rather have the board in front of me anyways. I am available weekday evenings and weekends EST. Please drop me a line if you are interested or IM me at AIM ID msosa16. I have already started a game in this fashion and so far it has been fun. I do need stronger competition though, as I am currently undefeated!
Happy Gaming!
PS And yes, there are so many ways to cheat in most of our games that there is no point in trying to protect against it (although I do check for "errors"). If I suspect someone of cheating I won't play with them. If dice rolls was all that we needed to protect against, there are online sites that let you get dice results which your opponent can verify. But again, part of the game fun for me is actually rolling those dice and tempting my fate!
