They are substitute minis (from other games) used to represent armies that don't fit on the map.
No expansion minatures or art have yet been released.
As we are currently playtesting the expansion the minis and art for it might be showed as a teaser in the near future, I will defenetly put them as teasers on my site (like I did with the main game components prior to release) if the desginers allow it.

Sorry, the NDA-agreement I have signed forbids me from telling you anything before the designers say that it is OK.
Let us just say that one or more of the allready existing characters might be usable in new ways and that some of the game mechanisms that today exist only in the cards might get miniatures and new rules.
This is ofcourse subject to change as the testing proceeds.

Roberto di Meglio already said that 10 new sculpts will be available in the expansion and invited us to guess which 10. Here is my list: Gollum, Elrond, Galadriel, the Balrog, Theoden, Ents, Siège weapons, Faramir, Grima Wormtongue and Denethor. I really think that these will be the new 10 sculpts. Now, being the sculpts already decided, please Roberto, let us know how many figures, among the 10 I listed above, will be part of the forthcoming expansion. I'm gonna ask also which figure I guessed exactly...but I'm pretending too much...It's up to you now! Ciao

For all Italian speaking people, go to the this site: www.warofthering.it/read.asp?id=1132you can something more about the new forthcoming expansion called "The war of the ring: Battles of Third Age" expected for october 2005. Three new sculpts will be: Ents, Siège Towers, and the Black Ships of the Pirates of Umbar. And as the designers always said, they always wish a Gollum miniature. Now let's try to guess about the 6 remaining miniatures: -Theoden -Galadriel -Faramir -Denethor -Wormtongue -Elrond I don't think we will have the Balrog, that on my opinion wil remain as a event card. Oh yes...they say that with this expansion we could reproduce the siège of Helm's Deep and Minas Tirith. I really can't waittttttttttttt

Actually, Greyskull, there are 2 projects in the works. The first is the expansion to War of the Ring, and the second is a "companion" game that deals only with Gondor and Rohan. The companion game is probably what you heard about "reproducing the siege of Helm's Deep and Minas Tirith".

But which of the two has the name "The war of the ring: Battles of the Third Age"? The expansion or the new game?

FYI: Francesco posted the following info. over at BGG:
"The expansion 'Battles of the Third Age' will include new rules/figures for the strategic game AND a new 'operational level' game with board."
So I guess the answer is: both!
