I am just curious as to how some of you got involved as a playtester for the game?
Admittedly, I would love to playtest the game myself - I am curious as to how you got involved with this (or any) game test.

Let me see.....
I frequently visited the forums for the OLD 'SPI' version of War of the Ring over at ConSimWorld and there the rumours about a new version began to pop up.
Then a new forum where created for the upcoming new version which is to be published by Nexus.
I began reading the posts there and when the game had advanced into playtesting Roberto Di Meglio posted that they where looking for external play-testers.
I applied and where lucky enough to be selected. I then had to sign a non-disclosure agreement. Once this was taken care of I got the playtest version of the game through the email. I had to put all the pieces together and then I was fit to begin the testing.
Since I have the OLD version of the game I used the counters from that game as playing pieces for this new version.

It sounds somewhat similar in process as Beta testing video games (of which I am infinitely familiar).
I was just curious how the board game industry went about getting external testers. How often do you get a chance to play through the games? Also, if you don't mind, how interactive is your relation with the developers/designers?
Keep up the good work! I am sure I don't have to tell you, you have a sacred trust in your hands making this the best game it can be! I can't wait to hear more playtest accounts!! They really get the anticipation revving!
OH! And I forgot... unlike the Video Gaming industry where MP betas connect you to other players in the beta, did you have to confirm the group that you test with as well? (In other words, I assume they all had to sign NDA's etc? Or did they also apply for the beta?)
Again, thanks for all the info!!

How interactive is your relation with the developers/designers?
We, the play testers and the designers, are on a mailing list where we, the play testers, post all our results and our thoughts and suggestions.
The designers then answer and suggest alternate rules to try and so on...
Did you have to confirm the group that you test with as well?
The person signing the non-disclosure agreement is responsible for his/her gaming group but there is nothing preventing the play tester from covering his/her own back by asking the members of the group to sign the agreement.
