First, to avoid misunderstanding, I think this version of the WotR is the best I played. Second, I am a bit disappointed by the lack of interest of the 3 player game. Int he Book, Saruman seem to be an outsider that want the ring for himself. I would have like an option to have Isengard as a third player which can win by itself. I think too that it should be an option for the FP to use the ring. Well when someone game out with homerules for these topics (and I should sooner or later) let us know.

I believe the designers wanted the multi-player versions to be close to the standard 2 player game for ease of play. I suspect the expansion will look at Saruman's role more closely. If you look at the WOTR thread on Consimworld you will find a huge debate over whether the FP would ever have been able to use the ring. It was the designers' opinion that this ran counter to the philosophy of Tolkein's work. But anything's possible in the province of house rules!
