Hey again,
In our last game, Shadow forces laid siege to Helms's deep and 4 companions were in the fortress (Gandalf, Gimli, Legolas and Boromir).
Some of these characters have the ability to add dices to the battle.
Are these command dice (like those of officers) or basic combat dice and can they add dice to bring the combat strenght of the forces over the maximum of 5?

Gimli, Legolas and Boromir will add 1 each to the combat strength, (Gandalf adds one to leadership) and one each to the leadership value of the army. Regardless of whether those combat strength points come from units or companions, you still may only roll a maximum of 5 dice when resolving the battle. Same goes for leadership.
So if you had 4 regulars in Helm's Deep plus these companions, you combat strength would be 7, but you only roll 4 dice.
If you had 2 rohan leaders plus these four companions, your leadership would be 6. But you could only reroll the number of missed combat dice, to a maximum of five. So if you rolled 5 dice, hit with 2 and missed with 3, your leader reroll would be 3 regardless of the fact that your leadership value was 6.

(...) So if you had 4 regulars in Helm's Deep plus these companions, you combat strength would be 7, but you only roll 4 dice. That is not right. In this case you will roll 5 dice. But I think you mistyped.

Yes you're right of course. Roll 5 combat dice in that situation. Where was my head?
