The SP strategy of weighting the dice toward the Hunt paid off handsomely when the FP had terrible rolls, being revealed virtually every time she moved and spending several turns freezing in the high pass. When she finally reached Lorien we shifted toward a military victory while she spent 5 turns healing. The plan was to sweep the south for 8 points, then take Lorien, but Galadriel and heavy musters put Lorien out of reach. Instead a small force from Don Guldur combined with a hoard from the East bypassed Dale and took the Woodland realm. The plan faltered at Pelargir, where a huge army blocked our passage to Don Amroth, besieged but not taken by the Corsairs. With the Dead men ready to take it back even if we did batter our way into Pelargir, the game took a sudden unexpected turn.
The Witch King returned to Angmar even as the Dunlandings raged to the very border of the Shire. In the nick of time, Tom Bombadil denied us our expected victory, so the combined forces bypassed and took the Grey Havens by storm for the first time in any game I’ve seen. With only one VP needed and the Fellowship in the Dead Marshes, we tried again at Don Amroth. Fortune favored our Corsairs, and we obtained a military victory before the Fellowship reached Mordor.
