Through a Day and A Night

In Lords of Middle Earth both Galadriel and Elrond cannot move from their location. Are they able to play Through a Day and a Night on armies in Lorien/Rivendell if they are the only companion present and cannot accompany the army? Is a companion required to move with the army or just be present in the army selected? I thought that they were required to move with the army but this question came up.

The Companion is required to move along with the Army, so Galadriel and Elrond don't qualify. Also, they are Companions for the purposes of Combat cards, but not Event cards.
