Of all the strongholds Gandalf the Grey could defend, Lorien is by far the best one.
The screw you get when you send him to another stronghold, is tha the Shadow can just put the siege on ice. That leaves Gandalf with a dilemma: On the one hand he's not getting his action die. On the other hand, if he changes into The White, and gets killed, he also doesn't generate a die.
In Lorien, he can remain Grey, and Galadriel still gives the same die. If Lorien falls, Gandalf the White still has a 1up. Ents are nearby, so if Ents are badly needed, Grey could go White, and maybe be rescued by Ents, or possibly by Bravery of the Elven People.
I still think GtG belongs as guide to the fellowship, but in some situations I'd consider seperating him. E.g. if Smeagol is guide and Lorien is about to fall under heavy attack.

This is a very good idea with the expansion, but with Gala, the one main advantage she gives is Gandalf can stay, and if the shadow doesn't Lorien Rush, he can stay in for very long, possibly till the end.

Loriens problem is it runs out of units Gandlaf or no. Gtg is better off with the Fsp. If smeagol is drawn, that's a total of 6 hit points, plus the staff card prevents a tile from being drawn, possible avoiding a total of 9 hits just with Gandalf.

Is smeagol is the guide, and unless ur sprinting, Aragorn is probalbly gone, so separating gandalf when smeagol is the guide is losing smeagol 1 lvl.
