What is it that makes you interested in the War of the Ring game?

Okay... I voted for all of the above... but it isn't true... but I couldn't pick the ones I wanted...
I would say the main draws for me (in order of importance) are:
1) Gameplay. It so far sounds very innovative, unique and well done. 2) The reports I read (and the sneak peeks etc.) get me drooling. The game action sounds exciting and fun! 3) The components are VERY well done (though I would change the color scheme of the units). This includes the Map and the Pieces and the Cards, etc. So far, all the components are beautifully done, elegant and are very evocative of the setting. 4) The setting. I love LOTR - and I get giddy as a school boy when I see something from the LOTR universe that is done well (not all of it is). This game seems to really capture both the epic story of LOTR, and in my opinion, more importantly, the world of Middle Earth at the time of LOTR
I don't personally care to re-enact LOTR - that's the joy of the boardgame. I can read the book and see the movies for that. With the game, I can do things differently and see how they play out. Maybe the fellowship takes a different route. Maybe the FP focus their fights elsewhere... maybe the shadow strikes the fellowship quickly and takes out some of the principle players....

61 people have viewed this post (arguable some repeats)... how come only a couple of people have responded to the poll...

Well, guests can't vote... Plus I'm not sure that there are enough poll choices to actually capture all answers to the question.
I answered "all of the above" but that isn't actually true. I would like to play a fun game with a Tolkein theme that requires some strategy.

For me anything relating to LotR will get my attention but this particular game I just can't wait to get my hands on. I really like the mechanics of the fellowship and the hunt very ingenious. The reports you guys have written have also heightened my anticipation but since I only have the one vote I've gone for 'Intriguing and innovative gameplay'.

Hi Dead-Eye, I can't believe you go to the movie for a 're-enactment' of LotR-nothing could be more DIFFERENT from the story ! Personally I think the movie makers should have been honest and gone the way the 'I, Robot' people went-simply saying that it was 'based on a concept of Lord of the Rings'! Anyway, back on topic now. I have to say that what most captures my attention is the highly innovative and re-playable nature of the game mechanics. Very much the same thing which attracted me to 'Lord of the Rings' by Reiner Knizia! Another great 'Sophisticated Games' product, might I add ! Yours, AussieLurker

In my defense - I didn't say that - I said that I didn't care to play a game that intends on re-enacting either the book or the movie. There's a significant difference.
And in defense of PJ and the rest - they explicitly said that parts will deviate from the book. The core of the story in the movie is the same core as in the book - the difference is on a scene by scene/character scale. I didn't find anything dishonest about that... Movies and books are very different mediums and thus require very different handling. And, in my opinion, I found the movies to be very well done - and enjoyable in their own right, despite the changes that were made and the choices of focus.
But I think we both agree that this game looks great!!

Hiya Dead-eye, Look I have to say I'm sorry for being a 'Troll' earlier ! I just have a real 'sore-spot' when it comes to the second two films, which I felt deviated completely from the SPIRIT of the story in a way I saw as Sacrelige! Anyway, I won't bring it up again after this, but will stress once again that, along with the 'Lord of the Rings' boardgame, this game will bring another great addition to the 'LotR' game genre ! No need to apologize at all. I didn't find it offensive... but with a degree in Philosophy and a background in logic and argument I often enjoy clarifying and restating positions. It's a hobby!!
I can understand your feelings about the movies - and I can clearly understand the arguments that book purists have against much of the films. Being a fairly hardcore LOTR fan myself, I can see the arguments clearly myself.
However, I find that I can detach my enjoyment of the movies (or other derivative material) from my purist streak. Especially because it is the first time that fantasy material was treated with something other than kid gloves or derision and mockery.

I know I said this was my last word but, what the hell ! The thing is that I actually LIKED the first movie-because I felt it kept true to the spirit of the story well enough. The second and third ones, though, left a VERY bad taste in my mouth! Well, there you have it-it truly IS my last word on this subject ! Yours, Aussie_Lurker.
