While the full descriptive reports are colorful, I have myself found it tough to capture all the details well. With a bit of work, I've devised the following:
AREA NAMES - use a 4 character nomenclature - ignore "of" and "the" - use first character of each word, then next characters of last word to create the 4 letter nomenclature. ----->Erebor = EREB ----->Minas Tirith = MTIR ----->North Anduin Vale = NAVA ----->Vale of the Carnen = VCAR *EXCEPTION* --> Old Ford = OFRD (as Old Forrest = OFOR)
UNITS - a simple #Type works ----->1 Elite, 4 Regulars = 1E4R
CHARACTERS - use brackets [] to denote characters with 2 letter abbreviations --->Witch King = [WK] --->Saruman = [SA] --->Mouth of Sauron = [MS] ---------- --->Gandalf the Grey = [GG] --->Strider = [ST] --->Boromir = [BO] --->Gimli = [GI] --->Legolas = [LE] --->Merry = [ME] --->Pippin = [PI] --->Gandalf the White = [GW] --->Aragorn = [AR]
EVENT CARDS - All cards are numbers (x/24) so S# or C# works there.
MOVEMENT - Use Starting Area -> Ending Area. Add (units) if not all units from area are moving. Ex. MTIR(2R)->OSGI
COMBAT - As movement but note: ATT: starting area->Ending area. - Denote each round and note SP and FP card play and casualties ---> 1: SP(S7)-2R FP(x)-4R
Thoughts? Comments?

Here's the first two turns of a game I'm running solo, to try out the shorthand. Let me know how it reads.
TURN 1: Pool (0+1)
FP: {C} Move FSP SP: {M} Sauron +1 (War) FP: {W} Move FSP SP: {M/A} Muster [WK]->MMOR FP: {M} Gondor+1 SP: {M} 1Eā>MMOR FP: {E} Draw C SP: {E} S8 BDUR(1N1E3R)->MMOR MORA(1N5R)->GORG SP: {A} MMOR([WK]2N2E8R)->SITH NURN(2R)->GORG SP: {E} C3
TURN 2: Pool (0+1)
FP: {C} Move FSP SP: {A} Attack SITH->OSGI ...1: SP(x)-1R FP(S19) 0 ...2: FP Retreats->MTIR FP: (M) 1E->MTIR SP: {C} Attack OSGI->MTIR ...1: SP(x)ā3R FP(S3)ā1E1R ...2: FP Retreats->MTIR Stronghold FP: (M/A) Muster 1L-> DAMR 1R-PELA SP: {M} Isengard +1 (War) FP: {E} Elven Ring->{C} Move FSP SP: {M/A} Muster [SA]->ORTH SP: {E} S24 2R->MMOR 2R->BDUR 2R->MORI SP: {M/A} [SA] 1R->ORTH 1R->NDUN 1R->SDUN SP: {A} GORG(1N8R)->MMOR NDUN(2R)->SDUN

The shorthand looks good to me. 'Course, I'd also like to see more game reports, so if this makes it easier to report, then so much the better!
