I think I've been playing this wrong.
When an army invades a territory and the defender decides to retreat into a siege, I now realize that the combat ends. The besieging player must then use another Action Die to attack the units in the stronghold. (according to p. 15)
The way we had been doing it before is conducting the siege attack immediately, but I now see that the army just MOVES into the territory immediately, not besieges.
Am I correct now? thanks.

Yes, you're doing it correctly now. It's also important to note that the attack that initiated the siege (the defender retreated into the Stronghold) counts as an attack for purposes of moving the Political Track marker, even though no dice were rolled.

First post, hello all! When in a region with a stronghold (but not in the SH under siege), does the defender receive any benefit? Or does he get hit with a 5 or 6 roll until he is actually in the SH?
thanks.

Still hit on a 5 or a 6. Only benefit from a Stronghold when inside the SH.
