Ok, this is about the following two questions together.
What I'm trying to figure out is, what exactly is it about the second situation that makes it different from the first. And more importantly, why does it make the difference? Because frankly, I can't seem to find anything in the rules, leading me to conclude that the second question is simply a completely arbitrary ruling not based on the rules.
Here goes, from what I can tell, there are two differences between the first situation and the second situation.
1) The Fellowship was declared in a Stronghold before it was besieged (vs. already being besieged in the first situation)
2) The Fellowship had a Fellowship Progress Track of 0 (the Progress Track was not actually mentioned in the first question, but was repeatedly mentioned in the second situation)
So, why would any of these two situations cause the Fellowship to be forced out of the region in the first case, but locked inside the Stronghold in the second case? Is one of the difference the deciding factor, or is it some special effect that's a product of the two differences being there together at the same time?
In other words, besides the two questions/situations in the FAQ, there are still two more unaddressed situations, and here they are.
Q1: If the Fellowship declared in an already besieged Stronghold, and your Fellowship Progress Counter is now at 0, what happens when I try to separate some Companions? Are they forced out of the region or stuck in the Stronghold?
Q2: If the Fellowship was declared in a unbesieged Stronghold, then later, over the course of several turns, moved along the Fellowship Progress Counter, but was not revealed or declared again (so their FPC is a non-0 number, let's say 3), and the SA attacks the region, forcing the FP to retreat into the Stronghold and be sieged, what happens if I try to separate the Companions? Are they forced out of the region, or are they stuck in the Stronghold?
I think that covers every possible situation. And thanks in advance to the answers.
Q Can I detach a Companion from the Fellowship when the Fellowship is in a friendly Stronghold under siege and leave the Companion in the besieged Stroghold?
A No, since a Companion can't enter a Stronghold under siege the Companion had to be detached prior to the siege. Once the Stronghold is under siege a detachment of Companions from the Fellowship can't end their detachment move in the besiged Stronghold. There is however one exception, see the following question.
Q What if the Fellowship is declared in a Stronghold that is not under siege. The Fellowship track is set to zero. During the turn, while the move track is still zero, the Shadow player attacks the Stronghold and the FP player retreats inside the Stronghold. The Stronghold is now under siege. Could not a Companion be detached under this circumstance, to remain in the Stronghold, prior to the Fellowship moving on the track?
A In this specific case any Companions seperated must stay inside the besieged Stronghold.
