A standard practice that we play in our games is that we prevent the FP from playing Gandalf the White by not playing any Sauron minions. Saruman is still played and tries to take out rohan as normal. Then we play it by ear.

Per the errata, Gandalf the White may be brought into play if any Shadow Minion has been played. This includes Saruman. The only exception is the Balrog (in the expansion).

Where is this errata? The card text is Sauron minion, and I can't find it through the war of the ring .eu site. This would be rather helpful to me.

Only if a Shadow Minion is (or has been) in play.
