Battle of the Third Age - Gondor scenario We played the Gondor scenario today for the first time and had a question concerning battle in Minas Tirith.
The rules state that until the non gate walls have been breached in Minas Tirith there is no movement allowed across those walls. If they have not been breached can the occupants inside Minas Tirith attack Shadow units in N. Rammas, N. City Wall, S. Rammas, or S. City Wall? If so, how does that work since you use the defender's terrain for battle effects; are the attackers hit on 5s and 6s, does the damage go towards the units or the stronghold, etc?
My opponent was thinking he still got the benefit of the stronghold but I'm thinking no; if he is allowed to attack out at all. I'm assuming defenders always hit on at least a 5 or 6 barring some combat card effect since border terrain only affects the attackers dice, correct?

Good question, I'll have to ask the designer for a definite answer but here is my take:
An army in Minas Tirith can attack out of Minas Tirith but won't recieve any bonus from the Stronghold since the target region is the region attacked.
If the attack is against the Great Gate Region advancment after combat is possible but not if the attack is coming from over an unbreached wall.

It seems ... more than a little cheesey that Cavalry can attack over the great walls of Minas Tirith. What do they do, fart in their general direction?
But then again, these are the same people who brought you Elephants capable of climbing up Siege Towers and scaling the walls, so perhaps it all evens out. ;D

Well, they can still use ranged weapons, can't they? But I'm curious about that one, too, since I'm playing the Gondor game today.
