The rise of Angmar
I have read a few posts about player complaining that there is not enough fighting in the Northern parts of the map in the War of the ring. I personally don’t have a problem with this, as the game is “the War of the ring”, Mt Doom is down south in Mordor, & that’s where more of the action happens in the books. Yet I think there are enough options for the Northern regions to play a secondary (or primary) role in the game!
Perhaps rather than create expansions that give players more options in the North in the war of the ring, its might be better to create a scenario that actually deals with a time period with War in the North…
This is only a brainstormed idea so bear with me…
THE NORTH WARS
Sauron sends his finest Lieutenant “The Witch King of Angmar” into the North to strike the first blow against the free peoples of middle earth with the objective to destroy the Dunedain of the North.
Ideas…
*Will the Witch King succeed in destroying the Dunedain of the North, & if so where will he strike next?
*Can Angmar influence the Hillman of Rhudaur to turn on its Sister nations?
*Will the Northern Dunedain kingdoms be able to set aside their squabbling among themselves to fight Angmar on a combined front?
*Or will the forces of Angmar with reinforcements Mt Gundabad (& possibly Rhurdaur) overrun all of Eriador!
*Will Amon Sul be able to hold out, & or prevent the Shadow forces from capturing its Palantir?
*Will Gondor & the Elves are able to come to the aid of Arnor in time, or even be muster in time to save themselves?
*Will the great plague strike at a critical time of the campaign with its disastrous consequences for both sides?
*Can the Dwarves defeat the multiplying Orcs in the Misty Mountains & prevent Moria from falling into the Evil hands of the Balrog?
I think the current map could be adapted by using some new counters for Strongholds in places like Angmar, Amon Sul…ect…
A new unit set up would be required, & maybe some new figures or counters for the Arnor armies?
Boarders could be marked out for the kingdoms of Rhudaur, Arthedain & Cardolan.
Some new event cards would be required that reflect the events of the North during this time.
A big X-factor for the campaign could be a random way for the great plague to come into play, witch could almost wipe the board clean of units & perhaps steal victory from the jaws of defeat, or vice versa for either side!
Unfortunately, these are only ideas for a military campaign. As yet I have been unable to come up with an idea that would give player duel victory conditions (like you have with military victory, or Ring based victory in the War of the Ring).
Maybe one of you guys have an idea for this?
Any feedback would be great?
