One comment I have heard is that the starting cards you get can have a major impact on the game. With a game of this length "luck" (or more importantly the perception of 'bad luck') can ruin the experience, so here's a variant to try if you find the starting hands too much of a factor, pick your favourite: - Each player searches through the 2 event decks and picks a starting card from each, decks are then shuffled for the game - 2 player only
- Each player draws 4 cards from each deck, chooses one of each, returns the remainder to the decks and shuffle
- Each player searches through the 2 event decks and picks 3 cards from each. The decks are shuffled and then from the selected 6 1 of both types are chosen and the remaining 4 are put back on the decks
- As above, but the 3 cards of each type are shuffled, one dealt, the other 2 put on the top of the relevant deck
These give the players a chance to stack the deck or their starting hands with events that best match their plans for the first few turns - also adds another level of thought for outside the game, what are your best 3 picks etc ... Nigel

It depends a lot on the starting cards, especially for the FP player, how the game will take its turn and this fact heightens replayability.

Quite, I haven't played it enough to get bored with the 'random' starting hand, but at times you do get cards that aren't much 'help' at the start. My variant above is just another option - is there a perfect starting hand? with this variant you can try and see. Nigel
