I've just finished work on an alternate map which I hope to post images of soon. This incorporates several of my own rules as follows: Rivers marked on the map are now always part of the boundary between two regions. Some river crossings are marked on the map as bridges. Units attempting to cross river boundaries without bridges will have to make route rolls, and armies retreating over rivers will be subject to pursuit rolls from the enemy army. Mountain barriers have been extended along the full length of the Misty Mountains, and along the border of Mordor. Armies cannot cross mountains, but characters may attempt to cross subject to dangerous route rolls. The Black Gate allows movement from Dagorlad to Morannon, but only for the player controlling the Cirith Gorgor Stronghold. Similarly, Minas Morgul has a gate allowing movement to and from North and South Ithilien for the controlling player. The new nations of Goblins and Rhun are marked with their own colours. Some territories are now forest and marsh zones, which have certain effects on movement and combat. Some territories have been moved to their authentic locations on the map, notably Anorien is now in Gondor, Rivendell is moved north of the Bruinen, and the Woodland Realm is now north of the forest river. Of course all these changes raise game balance issues which will have to be tested.
