Played a quick game last night. I played the Shadow. My strategy was to focus on Gondor, Rohan, and Lorien and capture them as quickly as possible.
Turn 1, I drew Monsters Roused and played it, thinking to use the Elite to shadow the fellowship, to give me a reroll on Hunt dice. I brought Sauron to War and mustered the Witch King, to get the extra die. The FSP moved 3 times; he rolled 4 Character dice and I rolled no Eyes (to add to the min. 1). He did get revealed, so I was able to move my Elite and then a Nazgul to the FSPs area.
I brought out Saruman on turn 2 and used a policy thereafter of the minimum hunt die for maximum dice for I the assault. I was besieging Lorien by the end of Turn 3 (after emptying Dol Goldur), preventing the FSP from using it as a refuge. Durin's Bane allowed me to make short work of the Elven stronghold later. My Isengard and Sauron juggernauts began rolling over their targets, though the killing and subsequent resurrection of Gandalf caused me to delay my Isengard assaults for a turn (when Mr. White shows up in Fornost, you've got to leave extra troops in Orthanc).
At the end of Turn 5, I controlled Lorien, Rohan, and Gondor, except for Dol Amroth. However, the FSP was in Mordor; I had only successfully hunted him 3 times (bad hunt dice), one of which merely resulted in "releasing" Gandalf from the party. Aragorn was crowned the start of turn 6 after I will go it alone was used to get him to Dol Amroth.
On Turn 6, I moved a stack of 4 Nazgul, 1 Elite, and 9 Sauron Regulars to Dol Amroth and, with my last die, assaulted. Defending it were Aragorn, a Gondor Leader and 4 Gondor Regulars. The first round of combat killed half of both armies; the second resulted in mutual destruction (via combat card use and good dice).
On Turn 7, the FSP reached Mount Doom; I couldn't get any troops to the now empty Dol Amroth until Turn 8.
Summary: I was happy with the strategy. One die of difference in the Dol Amroth assault would have resulted in a T6 victory. I didn't roll any EYE results the first 3 turns, which didn't help my "only place one EYE in the box" plan (I "expect" to roll at least 1, out of 6-8 dice). I also rolled horribly on the hunt rolls, even missing on a 2-die 4+ roll with 2 rerolls. The FP player also rolled about 2/3 character/will of the west, noticably over the 50% norm.
