Hi all!
I have a question for all WotR players with a strong traditional wargaming inclination. Would you be interested in having available for purchase a set of counter sheets to be used instead of or in combination with the plastic figures?
The product would be an order only item, with sheets of counters made in the same shape and size of our Hunt tiles (25mm square counters with rounded corners). The counters would feature the national icons and distinctive colours of each Nation in play, and possibly the individual names for characters and leaders (including minor ones), and will correspond to the game setup and reinforcement unit requirements (naturally!)
I must add that this is only a possibility, being considered in relation to the handful of players that have expressed a desire to see such a set (and because I love John Howe's Nation icons, and would like to see them more in the game!).
I'm asking the question to evaluate the potential interest.

As you say for the audience who seem to require this it would seem reasonable provided the counter sheet was relatively inexpensive. On the clarification front we have assumed that the text on some of the anti-FSP cards preventing them from being used in Mordor has been added inappropriately ie Orc Patrol - a region not containing a fp settlement when it should be possible to use them in Mordor. Is this an oversight or has the rule changed? The cards in question are Orc Patrol, Isildur's Bane and Foul Thing. Thanks.

I think the countersheet is a good idea as long as the cost is fairly low. The cost for the game itself is relatively high (not that it isn't worth it).
Perhaps you could have it as a downloadable pdf file?
Then those who want it can download it and print it and put it on card board. The least expensive version.

Yes, I would be interested in alternative piece set. I guess this way we could get named FP leaders Doug

I would definitely buy a counter set.
To put it more strongly: the only weak points for me of the game as articulated so far (without having gotten my copy yet) are 1. the use of minis and 2. some of the art for the characters doesn't quite do it for me. The latter issue is a very individual one and I can probably get used to it, but I'd love to see two birds killed with one stone by a set of counters (hopefully with better art, and as a big plus with named FP leaders).
I'd buy it no matter how much it cost (within reason).

I probably would...
I say probably b/c it still hasn't been released yet so I have no idea how I am going to feel about the current setup versus the potential counters.
However, from what I've read, the option sounds like a fine one - I just can't heartily endorse it... yet.

I would actually be interested in some flag stickers of National symbols to use with my Mighty Empires banners.

I would absolutely be interested in ordering counter sheets. Please let us all know when / if they'll be available. Great idea!

I would be interested too, the figures are quite cumbersome even if nice. I wold prefer a format that allow me to transfer them easily to PBEM engine like cyberboard.

Hi all! I have a question for all WotR players with a strong traditional wargaming inclination. Would you be interested in having available for purchase a set of counter sheets to be used instead of or in combination with the plastic figures? Having played the game quite a bit now (24 games I think), I'd definitely be interested in the counters. Yes the figures look nice (but the colours are horrible) but the mechanic for slipping counters under a figure isn't ideal - they slide around and you have to account for dead/replaced. The map isn't big enough for the figures, so I've made 'army boards' to use so most of the figures are off-map and a single marker is used to mark the army location. This means that most of the figures aren't on the board - so replacing them with card counters isn't an issue. So yep I'd be interested in a counter sheet to replace the figures. Wasn't sure when I first got the game, but the appeal of plastic figures has worn off before the appeal of the game. Also I'd be interested in a set of replacement cards (ideally printed correctly this time), as my set is starting to show wear already Nigel

Do as I did, buy plastic card protectors. [glow=green,2,300]Veldrin[/glow] That's great if you've just got the game - not so good if your cards have been heavily played, so much that they are 'grubby' and as thick as a slice of bread It's not a major problem as all of the cards are in a similar condition - games where you build a deck and some cards get more play than others it's a problem, just my set is looking 'well-played'. If there was a way to buy the cards (ideally re-printed with the right text) then I'd be interested, that's all. Nigel

Add me to the list. The plastic figures are cool but too much of a hassle to play with. I thought about painting them but ... that's also too much of a hassle for me! I don't need plastic figures to enjoy this game, nice cardboard chits will do.
