On the new minion cards it says "not considered a minion for the purposes of playing Gandalf the white". I take this to mean that you can't bring Gandalf the white in, but my wife is arguing that it means you can't use his special abilities in battle. It seems straight forward to me, but unfortunately I have been wrong on rules interpretations before so I need an answer from the experts. Thanks.

Sorry, I didn't see this before. You're right, and your wife is wrong. "Playing" a Character is a defined game term meaning to bring the Character into play.
