Hi, played game for first time with friend and a few questions came up even though reading the rules front to back.
- One event card lets you seperate a companion OR a group of companions from the Fellowship. Once done, you can move THEM 1 extra region. Does this mean I NEED to keep a group I seperated together in ONE group in move that group without dropping off any companions on the way? Can I seperate a group and then move them ALL INDIVIDUALLY from the fellowship? Or, if I seperate more then 1 companion, do they always leave the fellowship as a group and can only split up later?
- When is a hunt tile permanently discarded? Rules say if the fellowship is on the Mordor track, re-place all used tiles back into the pool and also add any special tiles brought into play. Do you add ALL the hunt tiles previsouly used?
- Activating and advancing on the political track. If the SP attacks Pelegrir (Gondor region, has Gondor units in it, has settlement), does that mean Gondor goes active AND advances TWO steps down the political track to war immediately (active AND move 1 step for having a unit attacked, settlement taken extra step = gondor at war?)
- I play a battle card with retreat. SP attacks Pelegrir. I use card to retreat all units. SP tells me he never actually attacked me as I retreated, no battle was fought, so no 1 step on political track. I disagree. What is the outcome? He doesn't want to enter Pelegrir either, I retreated. This is unclear to me.
- MUST you always occupy the region you attack and you succeed? Can you chose with how many units, even let only 1 enter when you played 5 combat dices for 5 army units?
- Fellowship can move unrestricted ANYWHERE as long as hidden, even when many companions in the Fellowship. Can you pass SP occupied Moria without any problems as long as not revealed? I know companions alone must stop in an enemy stronghold. ANd what if revealed and many companions in Fellowship, can you pass shadow strongholds? ( I know you need to draw a hunt tile, but can you pass and continue?)
- One card deck ran out of cards, during beginning phase, do I draw 2 cards from the remaining deck or 1?
- Fangorn event card. Play if Gandalf the White is in play and a companion is in Fangorn. Can this be Gandalf the White himself being there alone in Fangorn?
- I decide to fight a field battle in a region with a stronghold. No special dice modifiers? Rules say normal battle occurs when fighting a field battle, but even when a stronghold is present?
- Difficult one. FP stronghold is under siege by SP. I have a card saying "recruit one leader and one elite unit in a free peoples REGION" Can I place them in the stronghold under siege?? Card doesn't mention anything, just region.
Thanks!!!

Can I seperate a group and then move them ALL INDIVIDUALLY from the fellowship? Or, if I seperate more then 1 companion, do they always leave the fellowship as a group and can only split up later? Companions separated as a group must always move together after separating. They may only split up in a subsequent action. Also, Companions must split up at the beginning of an action - they can't split off from a group during the group's movement. - When is a hunt tile permanently discarded? Only when a game effect tells you to. An example would be the Challenge of the King Event card. Rules say if the fellowship is on the Mordor track, re-place all used tiles back into the pool and also add any special tiles brought into play. Do you add ALL the hunt tiles previsouly used? When the Fellowship enters Mordor, only the previously drawn Eye tiles are put back into the Hunt Pool. Any previously drawn numbered tiles are not put back in. - Activating and advancing on the political track. If the SP attacks Pelegrir (Gondor region, has Gondor units in it, has settlement), does that mean Gondor goes active AND advances TWO steps down the political track to war immediately (active AND move 1 step for having a unit attacked, settlement taken extra step = gondor at war?) Yes. You are right. He attacked you, so your Nation is activated and advances. - MUST you always occupy the region you attack and you succeed? Can you chose with how many units, even let only 1 enter when you played 5 combat dices for 5 army units? You may move any number of the units from the attacking Army into the region, including none. ( I know you need to draw a hunt tile, but can you pass and continue?) Yes, you can pass and continue, even if revealed. - One card deck ran out of cards, during beginning phase, do I draw 2 cards from the remaining deck or 1? Just one. - Fangorn event card. Play if Gandalf the White is in play and a companion is in Fangorn. Can this be Gandalf the White himself being there alone in Fangorn? Yes. - I decide to fight a field battle in a region with a stronghold. No special dice modifiers? Rules say normal battle occurs when fighting a field battle, but even when a stronghold is present? Yes. - Difficult one. FP stronghold is under siege by SP. I have a card saying "recruit one leader and one elite unit in a free peoples REGION" Can I place them in the stronghold under siege?? Card doesn't mention anything, just region. You can recruit in a Stronghold under siege using an Event card, provided all conditions on the card are met.

Thanks for the replies Krieghund!!!
"You may move any number of the units from the attacking Army into the region, including none."
So I assume if the attacker choses to not advance into the conquered region at all (after defender eliminated or retreated) that region stays under control of the original defender?
Say a battle is being initiated over a region with a stronghold in it. The defender choses to retreat immediately into the stronghold and into a siege. What if the attacker then decides NOT to move any of his units into that region? The defender is automatically out of the stronghold again?
And then one more. 2 companions seperated from the fellowship. To activate an outcome of a card they ended their movemnet in the Woodland Realm. With the next action die the FP player wants to move the Woodland Realm army to the south, can the 2 companions accompany that army when it's being moved with an army action die?

Moving or attacking with an Army is fundamentally the same, whether you're using an Army die or a Character die to do it. The only differences it makes which die you use is that when using an Army die you can move two Armies and when using a Character die you may only activate an Army that contains a Character or Leader. In effect, the presence of a Character or Leader in an Army allows it to move or attack with a Character die as well as an Army die. Just one of the benefits of having Leadership in an Army.

Thanks again Krieghund!
You say; "You can recruit in a Stronghold under siege using an Event card, provided all conditions on the card are met."
This I understand, but we have a FP card saying; "recruit in any Rohan region with a FP army either a regular or elite army unit and a leader" Can this be then be done in Helm's deep even if it is under siege? It specifically states REGION, not stronghold. It doesn't say anything about it either.
And what about many cards that can fulfill only part of the details. i.e. if a cards states; "recruit 1 elven elite or regular and move the elven nation one step on the political track" What if the elves are already at war? Can you still recruit? What if not at war but they don't have ANY regular or elite unit anymore. Can they still be advanced politically?
"Recruit 6 southrons regulars" What if I only have 5 left?
The Mordor track. Declaring the ring in the Fellowship phase makes it reach the SP stronghold in Mordor hidden. Can I in that SAME Fellowship phase already enter the first step of the Mordor track? Could I also do that revealed (and draw a hunt tile for passing through the stronghold)?
"Regions free for the purpose of army movement". This means unoccupied and not within another nations borders right? (unless you are at war already, then it is anywhere) Can it also mean within another nations border and occupied by an enemy but with no enemy units in it?
"as long as the defending army is within 2 regions of Moria"; can you count 2 regions through an impassible border?
"adjacent to" Place units adjacent to Orthanc region. I suppose this also means the region north of Orthanc even though devided by impassible border?
"move an army 2 regions, as long as it ends in a region already occupied by friendly units" Does this mean actual friendly army units need to be IN that region, or can it also mean it was once occupied but now is left without enemy units but still in the hands of the mover?
Companions are always ex-fellowship members right? We play with treebeard from the mini expansion, but he's a character and not a companion right? So, if the cards states "and a companion is in Fangorn" this cannot be Treebeard?
Thanks again, sorry but more questions seem to come up each game...

It specifically states REGION, not stronghold. It doesn't say anything about it either. Yes. A Stronghold is part of the region it's in. If the card can only be partially resolved, you can still do only those parts that can be resolved. However, if the card says "do A to do B", you must do A in order to do B. The Mordor track. Declaring the ring in the Fellowship phase makes it reach the SP stronghold in Mordor hidden. Can I in that SAME Fellowship phase already enter the first step of the Mordor track? Yes. Could I also do that revealed (and draw a hunt tile for passing through the stronghold)? Based on some of your questions, I'm assuming that you're playing the 2nd edition. Please correct me if I'm wrong, as this answer is different in the 1st edition. If the Fellowship is already revealed in either Morannon or Minas Morgul at the beginning of the Fellowship Phase, it may move onto the Mordor Track without drawing another Hunt tile. If it becomes revealed while being declared in either Morannon or Minas Morgul (certain circumstances allow this), a Hunt tile must be drawn. In either case, it remains revealed on the Mordor Track (and may not move) until an action is used to Hide it. "Regions free for the purpose of army movement". This means unoccupied and not within another nations borders right? (unless you are at war already, then it is anywhere) Correct. Can it also mean within another nations border and occupied by an enemy but with no enemy units in it? I think you mean "controlled" by an enemy, as if it's "occupied" it has enemy units in it. Yes, a region controlled by the enemy but unoccupied by enemy units is free for the purpose of Army movement, even if it's within enemy borders. "as long as the defending army is within 2 regions of Moria"; can you count 2 regions through an impassible border? "adjacent to" Place units adjacent to Orthanc region. I suppose this also means the region north of Orthanc even though devided by impassible border? No. Regions divided by an impassible border are not considered to be adjacent for any purpose. "move an army 2 regions, as long as it ends in a region already occupied by friendly units" Does this mean actual friendly army units need to be IN that region, or can it also mean it was once occupied but now is left without enemy units but still in the hands of the mover? At least one friendly unit must currently be in the region. Companions are always ex-fellowship members right? We play with treebeard from the mini expansion, but he's a character and not a companion right? So, if the cards states "and a companion is in Fangorn" this cannot be Treebeard? He is not a Companion. However, per his Character card, Treebeard "counts as a Companion for all Event and Combat Card purposes if he is in Fangorn or in a Rohan region", so as long as he is in one of those regions, a card requiring the presence of a Companion there may be played.

Thanks again Krieghund! Things are getting clearer Yes, sorry, second edition of the game with Treebeard. One issue we ran into as well. - Card says; move any FP army from any Rohan region, even from a stronghold under siege, directly to Minas Tirith, even if under siege. First; this comes up more, moving armies, do you always need to move the entire army with such a card or can you also split? Second; You want to move an army to Minas Tirith completely, but the total units now in Minas Tirith exceed 5 army units allowed while under siege. Can this be the case? Then, again this came up; Place X regular armies in X. What if I have only X - 1 left? Can I still place X-1? Shouldn't it then better say; Place UP TO X units...?

Second; You want to move an army to Minas Tirith completely, but the total units now in Minas Tirith exceed 5 army units allowed while under siege. Can this be the case? No. If Minas Tirith is besieged, you can't move there: "If Minas Tirith is under siege or is controlled by the Shadow player, move the Army to a region adjacent to Minas Tirith instead. The destination region must be free for the purposes of army movement." Then, again this came up; Place X regular armies in X. What if I have only X - 1 left? You can place what you have. That is covered by the rule that allows you to partially resolve a card if it's not fully resolvable.

Thanks, true, I didn't remember correctly, but in checking the card, I saw I had forgotten the last part. Thanks for your answers!!!

Thanks again Krieghund. We played again and of course another question came up;
FP card; Cirdan's ships. Elves are at war, and I would love to place extra units in besieged Dol Amroth. It says a coastal region containing a FP army. Well, yes and no, it's a region (again) but it's besieged. Card makes no mention. Can I place 2 elven units in Dol Amroth, even when total army units of FP now is more then 5...?

You can place the units in besieged Dol Amroth. However, any time you exceed the stacking limit in a region, you must remove any excess units at the end of the action and place them in the reinforcement pile. The only advantage of overmustering is to replace regular units with elite ones.

Thanks again, one more if I may.
Gandalf is the guide, his ability gives you an extra card of the same category if you use an event die. What if I play a card that says; then draw another strategy card. Do I then draw 2 cards?

Hi, I need a confirmation.
"Scouts" said that you can "retreat your Army to an adjacent free region..." This cannot be used by the attacker, to withdraw from a battle to another region whence he came from, or?"
Second one concerning redrawing of cards: You have the Palantir of Orthanc and play a character card with a Palantir, while the witch king hunter is in the same region as the fellow ship (LOME). Do you draw 2 cards?
Thank you in advance!
