In the first edition the wording on the card differs from the second edition card.
"If there is a free peoples army in the region, a battle starts. The attacking shadow army cannot cease the attack, unless the free peoples army was already under siege"
Does this change mean that combat must be resolved before the FP can fall back into siege?
or is it simply a clarification on the rules when applied to a FP that was already under siege? Thanks in advance

It is a clarification.
If a field battle ensues the Shadow Army cannot retreat.
