My friends and I have gotten to the point where we're very experienced with the extended regular WotR game. The Free Peoples are winning almost every time, because nothing the Shadow player can do can stop the Fellowship. This is what you need to do:
1) If the Shadow player puts a lot of Eyes in the hunt pool, you just move the Fellowhip once and then use the rest of your dice to build up defenses. Even if 5 eyes are in the pool, there's a 40% chance that the Hunt will be unsuccessful. Plus, because the Shadow player has so much dice in the Hunt pool, he won't be able to do much militarily that turn anyway.
2) If there only end up being one or two dice in the Hunt pool, move the Fellowship two or three times. Since half of the possible dice rolls allow movement, this should always be possible and the chances of a successful hunt are very low.
3) Get Galadriel as soon as Mordor or the Elves are at war. Her ability to get rid of Eye tiles with an Elven ring for the entire game is HUGE! Every time you have the chance, get rid of an eye with this special ability.
4) Don't move anyone out of the Fellowship unless you have almost no corruption and you're almost in Mordor. Keep killing Fellowship members to decrease corruption until there's no one left to kill or unless you're in Mordor (unless you have corruption problems by the time you get there). Those in the Fellowship represent 14 corruption! That's a ton, especially if you play it right and don't let the Shadow player have too many successful hunts (#1 and #2)!
5) Kill Gandalf as the guide very first to decrease corruption. You can then bring him back in Fangorn or an Elven Stronghold with a Will of the West as Gandalf the White and get a much-needed extra die.
6) Once Aragorn is the guide, kill a random casualty every time instead of killing him as the guide. His ability to hide using any die is very helpful. Plus he presents the opportunity to get another die down the road.
7) Once in Mordor, make sure Gollum is your guide soon unless you absolutely need Fellowship members to help with corruption. His special abilities - only an Eye reveals and reveal yourself to take one less damage - are very helpful.
8) Take the track through Moria if possible. It's the shortest way to Mordor - 11 moves. As long as you declare them on the other side of Moria without getting revealed, and as long as the Balrog isn't in play, it won't cost you anything.
9) Don't waste time declaring yourself in a Fellowship stronghold like Lorien. It's a waste of time. Use the fastest route possible (#6) to get to Mordor, and use the Fellowship and cards to help with corruption.
As long as you follow these guidelines and use your dice/cards wisely, the Shadow player can never be victorious in time to stop the Fellowship. Give it a shot.
