Rereading the Xpac rules: The FP can basically build a trebuchet anytime they want, before or during a siege, at war or not. Now the shadow player attacks a stronghold and then retreats. Rules state all siege engines must be removed. (should say ALL SHADOW siege engines or simply just TOWERS) That makes sense as the FP come out and detroy them, but that cant possibly mean the TREBUCHETS must be removed. That would NOT make sense. Must be a mistake?

Actually, the rules say that all Siege Engines in the besieging Army are removed when the siege ends. The defender's Siege Engines remain, unless that Army is eliminated.

Note too, only Active nations can build Trebuchets. Though as you mention, they do not have to be At War yet.

Another question on Trebuchets: is the presence of a FP army necessary for Trebuchets to be mustered/exist?
