Just heard from Evan Hall at FFG that the War of the Ring Collector's ED. will NOT be released in Aug. at the gamers convention as expected. Maaaaybe Christmas or sometime next year. I guess we should just paint our own figures and hope they simply just sell the new board/map. That was the only minus in the game anyways.
On 19th June, 2007 Tom Hanthingy wrote "So when is the deluxe version coming out? If someone could direct me to a thread, I'd appreciate it. I looked for a couple minutes and can't find any information. "
I replied "Currently the timeline is very long indeed.
The "deluxe" version the powers that be want is a shiney chrome version of the game, including the main game from the expansion.
They dont actually know what bits to chrome, and what to leave. Changes to miniatures, map and rules are all under consideration. Meaning upgrades to everything they can, and arguing / justifying every, single, little, change.
They dont even know which languages. Seriously, one of them could be Elven!
A new player could easily wear out a set of WotR by the time a new set comes out. "
I think the progress of the collectors edition could be summarised as, "It will not be in Elven"
on 22 Aug 2007 I wrote "The powers that be have decided that they prefer to make "Art" more than "Money".
Hence Collectors Edition, not version 2, a basic complete set."
I have a lot of respect for anyone that wants to make art more than money. But, I hope that I may have been at least a tiny part responsible for the delay in Collectors edition until the powers that may be at FFG have made a large pile of money from the straight reprint of this wonderful game.
Having collectors edition fail because there is not enuff players to upgrade to collectors would have been a travesty.
Dont hold your breath waiting for collectors edition is all I would like to say. I know what it means when someone says it will be done by Christmas.
