In analyzing some of my recent shadow losses, I've found one inefficiency common to them all: Mordor Beta absorbs a few half moves, but never sees combat.
Part of the problem is one of size. Should I march out the 5-army in Minas Morgul alone? Clearly not, it'll be too small to do anything against Gondor.
Should I round up the Nurn Guys (TM) and the Gorgoroth Guys too, and make a complete 10-stack? Without any elites, its a pretty incapable 10-stack, and it takes two half-moves more to get than the previous option. I think this is lame.
So should I get just 8 guys (Gorgoroth & Minas Morgul) and wade into Minas Tirith? No, not really that either. Minas Tirith will probably russle up 6-7 hit points, which is more than enough to stop 8 hit points of attackers.
So what to do with them?
Mainly: Take no action without cards. The cards I like are Pits of Mordor (makes a 10-stack with Gorgoroth), The King is Revealed (Makes a 10-stack with leadership), and Musterings of a LPW (makes a 10-stack and also makes Mordor impregnable.
But even then I'm not very keen. Minas Tirith can be a real drag.
So I hereby resolve to stop sinking army dice into those orcs, and start sinking army dice into the Southrons, who are closer to Dol Amroth, and have two elites. Those elites can really save your bacon in a tight game, especially with Mumakill.
