In games against Mr. Weasely, I've seen him favor getting the Elves to war quickly, both to muster Galadriel and bolster Lorien's defenses.
I'm contemplating that perhaps there are other ways of doing things. In particular, as the Elves start active, they could stand to make good use of trebuchets. Maintaining siege superiority, or at least preventing the Shadow from seizing it, is incredibly important in the battle of Lorien, since Galadriel can bring in reinforcements between every attack. Furthermore, as Mr. Weasely has also discussed with me, it saves on Elven troops which are always in short supply in any case.
Furthermore, I would contend that trebuchets are most important for the FP in the FIRST siege of the game, especially when it comes early like a Lorien rush. This is because for the first several turns, Shadow musters are at a premium. There's just so much to be done with them - getting to war, bringing out minions, using the Voice, bringing in Dunlendings...forcing the Shadow to spend an early muster on a Siege tower is *expensive* for them.
If you're not getting the Elves to war though right away, it's especially important to send a Captain there ASAP (maybe even two? but it leaves Frodo sooo much more vulnerable...), so that they're rolling at least 4 combat dice. So it would be something along the lines of get Legolas in there quickly, muster the Elves ONCE on the political track, and then build a trebuchet and wait for the Shadow to come knocking.
You need the one political muster to make sure you can muster an elite after the first Shadow attack. So the sequence of events would presumably be:
Shadow moves Dol-Guldur/North Dunland combo army to Dimrill Dale.
Shadow puts Sauron to war.
FP musters Galadriel.
Shadow attacks, Elves go to siege.
FP passes.
Shadow attacks, putting elves to war, but the battle only goes 1 round 'cuz you have Siege superiority, so you can reinforce.
If they build a siege tower instead, you build a 2nd trebuchet.
If musters are abundant, I suppose going 1 step away from war, waiting for the attack and then mustering an extra elite right before they start the siege is an option. But if it's a choice between that and the trebuchet, my argument here is that the trebuchet might be better.
I look forward to trying it out in any case.
