I have been looking for a simple balancing option for the FP. I think this is a simple one, that actually also makes some thematic sense:
The Mordor Track is not considered a Region, for purposes of Event Cards Playing.
This effects the following cards:
- Candles of Corpses
- Orc Patrol
- Foul Thing of The Deep
- Isildurs Bane
The Event part of these cards now become Unplayable when the FSP has entered Mordor. They may only be used for its battle effect.
The Balancing Point of View
Mordor now becomes slightly less dangerous. Still Mordor means 5 steps on the Mordor Track + the risk of "Lure of the Ring" , "Breaking of the Fellowship" & "Morgul Wound" being played.
Approximatley, this should shorten the time needed for the FSP to dunk the ring, with ½-1 turn. A shorter game means less time for SP to grab 10VP:s. Great!
The Thematical Point of View
Well, this is a bit awkward, but let's check what happened in the books!
- Candles of Corpses: Hit the FSP when they were in Dagorlad/Emyn Muil Region
- Foul Thing of The Deep: Hit the FSP in Hollin/Moria region
- Orc Patrol: A bit unclear. Could be either the Orcs that captured Merry/Pippin, or the Orcs that the FSP met inside Mordor.
- Isildurs Bane: Dunno really...Could be anytime that Frodo was whining about the weight of the ring I guess ;D
- By disallowing these four cards to be played inside Mordor, the FP know better what to expect from Mordor. He'll face 5 steps of the Track and 3 potential Cardplays. Not as is now, 5 steps of the Track & 7 potential cardplays. I think this would encourage the FSP to enter with 0-1 Companions into Mordor, which is also the way Mordor played out in the Books.
Anyhow, that's my take on it. Thoughts?
