We annotate the 25th day of December in the year 3018 of the Third Age. It is a cold but sunny morning and the
Fellowship leaves Rivendell for their quest to destroy the One Ring in Mordor. Rumor spreads of a nameless fear
growing in the dark places of the world.
The Fellowship advances well and has just crossed the High Pass of the Misty Mountains through the Goblin Gate as they
learned that Sauron's forces - the foul Orcs of Dol Guldur lead by a dreadful Nazgul - have besieged and finally have
smashed the defences of Lorien. The Golden Wood has fallen into the hands of the Enemy!
Strengthened by this victory Sauron unleashes his full force from Mordor while Saruman - showing his true colors -
spreads the terror of his Uruk-Hai breed over the free lands of Rohan. The forces of good are driven back from both
Osgiliath and the Fords of Isen and soon Evil lays siege on Minas Tirith and Helm's Deep.
While things are going ill for the Free People the Fellowship is revealed by an Orc Patrol and Frodo has to use the
Ring wherefore he suffers heavy corruption. Hearing the bad news from the South Gandalf decides to leave the Fellowship
taking Pippin with him and Legolas walks "there and back again" to the Woodland Realm to activate and inform the northern
leaders about the war which has already covered great parts of southern Middle-Earth.
Since his military offense works well Sauron concentrates his will on finding the Ring. Thus, he sends out a Nazgul to
the North in order to seek after the Ring which makes it impossible for the Fellowship to proceed.
But then Gandalf the White appears in Westemnet relieving the siege of Helm's Deep and driving the evil forces back to
the Fords of Isen. Sauron has to focus all of his will on the battle fields so that the Fellowship is now able to proceed
towards Eastern Mirkwood. On their way there Strider becomes convinced that he has to become King and that he has to lead
the Free People against the Vast hordes of the Dark Lord. So Strider, Boromir and Gimli separate from the Fellowship and
head south while Frodo, Sam and Merry continue their task to reach the Black Gate and enter Mordor.
The board is now set and the pieces are moving in the following way:
Evil has awoke in the northernmost part of Middle-Earth and the With-King has appeared again in Angmar.
The Dwarves and the Northern Men still are not "at war" and the Elves are proctecting their last strongholds Rivendell,
the Woodland Realm and the Grey Havens.
In central Middle-Earth Evil is still ruling since the northern people are not able neither to march against Moria or
Dol Guldur nor to recapture the Golden Wood of Lorien.
Siege has been laid once again on Helm's Deep but this time Gandalf the White and brave Peregrin Took are with the
Rohirrim. Aragorn has been crowned in Pelargir and together with Boromir, Gimli and Prince Imrahil he is leading an
Gondorian army to Osgiliath in order to relief Minas Tirth from the besieging creatures.
In the deserts of Harad the Southrons are waiting as well as in Rhun the Easterlings are lurking - both not yet "at war".
Thus, things have developed ill for the Free People but suddenly within on heroic day the tide is turning!
Lead by Gandalf the Rohan army in Helm's Deep sallies out killing almost every orcish creature and drives the remaining
Orcs back to Orthanc. Arriving at the black tower they find Isengard destroyed and Saruman killed by the Ents but the
evil forces are able to retreat into the stronghold and wait there for support from the Mines of Moria.
On the very same day the Gondorian army lead by Aragorn totally annihilates Sauron's army in a great battle on the
Pelennor Fields, while at the same time a small but brave Northern Scout Force is capturing the unguarded stronghold of
Mount Gundabad.
Hearing about this unexpected capture and since knowing that Frodo has suffered a lot of corruption and probably will not
make it to Mount Doom Aragorn decides to march against Minas Morgul in order to defeat Sauron military.
A terrible mistake as shall be told later.
But before that, again the tide turns and the Orc-flood will be massier than ever before.
The Witch-King moves forth and forms up to attack Rivendell while a second Nazgul leads another army against the Shire.
The Dwarves remain in their countries not interested in the needs of other peoples and the combined force of Northern Men
and Elves is totally outnumbered by the Shadow forces. Then, a third Nazgul appears in Angmar leading an army against
Mount Gundabad and quickly recaptures the stronghold.
In the meantime Aragorn has besieged Minas Morgul under great losses. However, it is only a matter of time for Minas Morgul
to fall and Mordor widely open to Aragorn and his warriors. But then, all of a sudden, a big orcish army from Gorgoroth
attacks the Gondorian soldiers. A short and bloody fight begins and in the end the Orcs slay every single Gondorian soldier.
In this dark and tearful night Aragorn, Son of Arathorn, Heir to the Throne of Gondor, Boromir, Son of Denethor, and Gimli,
Son of Gloin, loose their lifes and their bodies are smashed at the slopes of the Ephel Duath.
News of this terrible loss gush over Middle-Earth and the courage of the Free People begins to fade.
The Shadow forces multiply again and soon a huge force marchs out of Mordor for Gondor which is now open to Sauron.
The victory of the Dark Lord is close at hand and seems inevitable but meanwhile Frodo and Sam - now lead by Gollum -
have come closer and closer to Mordor and while Sauron's Great Eye being bound on Gondor they slip through the Black Gate
and enter Mordor.
But this is nothing more than a sparklet of hope since the two Hobbits still have to cover a great distance before reaching
Mount Doom and the Ring takes more and more possession of Frodo. Furthermore the Shadow spreads over Gondor where he
quickly captures Minas Tirith and Palargir and heads towards Dol Amroth. The remaining Uruks and Wolfriders besiege Helm's
Deep and in the North Rivendell and the Shire are about to fall.
Sauron is taking a deep breath ... but just before he is blowing out the lights of Middle-Earth for all times Frodo and Sam
reach the slope of Mount Doom by using Galadriel's Phial and cast the One Ring in the fiery chasm of Orodruin! Instantly
the creatures of the Dark Lord are driven mad and scatter over the lands where they are pursuited and slain one after the other.
Sauron, the Great, the Enemy of the Free People, is defeated!
Middle-Earth has stood upon the brink of destruction but has been saved by the most unlikely creatures imaginable:
Frodo Baggins, the Ringbearer, and Samwise Gamgee, the Brave!!!
