The game had come down to Dol Amroth. If the SA player wins, victory is achieved. If the FP players can hold, then next turn Frodo and Sam would most certainly reach Mount Doom. The SA player had besieged Dol Amroth, and had already assaulted it several turns. Aragorn and Boromir, along with a leader and several Gondorian units were withering under attack after attack.
The garrison had been reduced to two units as the SA player tried one last time with seven Orcs, three Nazguls, and the Witch King, to overrun and win the game.
But Aragorn and Boromir held firm, only losing one unit. And in return, they dealt a massive five hits on the orc army, leaving the SA player with only two units and the FP players with only one unit.
It was then that Aragorn saw his chance. Under siege there would be no more musters. The SA player only had to reinforce his 2 orcs, and continue the attack, and SA has several action dice to use in this effort. So with a “Sudden Strike” (an event that allows the FP player to attack with Leader values BEFORE combat) Aragorn, Boromir, the Gondor leader, and the lone unit charged into the Orcs, Nazguls and Witch King. A fateful charge that would decide the fate of Middle Earth.
In a rare twist, the FP Leadership was actually more than its power. With Aragorn’s 2 Leadership, Boromir’s one, and the Gondor leader’s 1, that gave the FP four dice to achieve 2 hits, and win the war. They charged........and......wiffed. Not one hit.
Then the great battle ensued, with Aragorn in deadly duel with Witch King, Nazguls flying about, Boromir hacking away at Orcs, and Orcs at Gondorians. It was a fight to the death....literally. Aragorn fell, Boromir fell, the Witch King fell, the Nazguls fell, the Orcs fell, and the Gondorians fell. Every unit, every leader, every companion, and every minion....fell. And when the sounds of battle died away....no one was left. All gone.
Then a wandering orc patrol that was cooling its heels in Lamedon, waltzed over and single-handedly captured Dol Amroth...for the SA win.
