your latest FAQ post showes only 3 characters can discard 'Threats & Promises' but you could use any character that could move the political track in Rohan to discard 'Wormtongue' ... If 'Threats & Promises' requiers it to be in text shouldn't it be the same for 'Wormtongue' thankz

The "Wormtongue" card is discarded if Rohan is Activated (which occurs if the appropriate Companion enters Edoras or Helm's Deep).
"Threats & Promises" is discarded if a Nation is Advanced on the Political track due to an attack or a Companion special ability.
Advancing on the Political track and Activation aren't the same things.

This does not seem quite right Are you saying that for Threats the companions' special ability must be the one in the character card box whereas for activation in Wormtongue the companion's special ability can be the icon at the bottom right of the card? Isn't the phrase "companion's special ability" being used inconsistently here?

Steve, If you read the cards you see that you must "Advance" a nation to discard "Threats and Promises", the only Companions able to Advance nations are Gimli, Boromir and Legolas.
I don't know if this is the intent of Roberto & co. but it sure is how it stands on the cards and it makes "Threats and Promises" a very useful card.
I will ask them...

But isn’t it also true that any Nation that is ‘activated’ is subsequently immune to Threats and Promises since it only affect ‘passive’ Nations?
This would mean that, for example, Pippin could activate The North and they could then be freely advanced on the Political Track even though Threats and Promises is still on the table.

Yes, but the card is not discarded when Pippin Activates the nation, only if a nation is advance by Gimli's, Boromir's or Legolas special ability or by an attack from the Shadow.
Pippin Activating the North and you spending a Muster die to advance them would not discard the card.

Yes, I realize that. I was just musing that since: 1) the elves are already active 2) Gondor will usually activated pretty quickly 3) the North and the Dwarves often stay out of the fight for an extended period anyway this event may not be the terror it first appears to be.
