Reading another thread, I see that when Companions leave the Fellowship, they all end up in the same place. My question is:
1. Does this only happen when you use a Character result on the strategy dice? I assume that you can then split off as many Companions as you want?
2. I assume you can also move the other Companions who may have already split off earlier with the same die?

The character die used to separate companions from the fellowship can be used to detach more than one provided they all end up in the same region with a max speed of the swiftest of the group (taking into account the distance the FSP marker is on the track). I think of it as a single party of companions going their own way. This die does not allow any of the companions already on the board to move but a separate roll can move any or all of these.

Thanks, Steve. So separation is a big deal--you have to commit a full die to doing it. How many separations occur during the course of the game, then? I'd assume you usually see one for Aragorn and possibly some friends...Is that it? I've seen some game commentaries where Gandalf leaves very early, but that doesn't seem common. Obviously Sauron's card play has its own impact, but I'm guessing that left to your own devices as FP you'd only split people off once at most since GtW just pops up in an Elven stronghold?

It very much depends on the game situation. Strider usually heads for Gondor (via Rohan if the Dead Men of Dunharrow appear). Gandalf is useful for leading the fellowship but Strider may be more so (with his hiding with a die ability). If you have several companion battle effects then more may be separated for these benefits or you may want to activate nations with them and always remember that you really only want a maximum of 3 companions in the fellowship when Mordor is entered.
