In one of the photos on the Gamefest site, we see the Saruman figure and a red die. One of the faces of the die shows a palantir with a red eye inside. What does this symbolize?

I think the red die is one of the shadow action dice.
IIRC, the straight "eye" showing is for the hunt.
Good question about the eye within a palantir icon... my guess is it is a character icon (and hence it is put with the Saruman character card and mini).
(I think the following are the options on each die: muster, move/muster, move, character, event and an eye)

This is what the symbols will be for the different actions: (Thanks for correcting my mistakes Francesco and Steve)
Palantir=Event action (draw or play card)
Flag= Muster Army
Helmet= Army Muster
Sword=Character
Eye=Hunt (Sauron only)
Elven rune symbol=Will of the West (FP only)

I think the helmet is for muster (which would fit) and the fire/flag represents the army roll.

So the palantir/event roll would allow the player to draw or play an event card? Or just play one?
Thanks for the info. By the time the game actually comes out, we may be able to deduce the rule book by the answers to all our questions.

So the palantir/event roll would allow the player to draw or play an event card? Or just play one? Play any one event or draw one card from any of your decks.

What does the Army die roll allow a player to do? Move his army and attack with it?

I am pretty sure that the army icon does allow a player to move an army a certain number of spaces (limited to 1 if attacking IIRC) - though there may be other aditional things you can do.
It seems as though with each icon, there are a couple of options on how to use it.
From the site: "...a Leader can also move an army on a character icon. There are also cards that move an army more than one region or allow multiple armies to converge which can produce a nasty surprise!"

I just looked up the movement rule (as it was stated under the game overview): you can "...usually move two armies a single region if not enemy controlled or one for an attack" Which I guess addresses my own thought...

What does the Army die roll allow a player to do? Move his army and attack with it? First, every icon let's you play a card of the same type (Army icon, Army card, muster icon, muster card and so on), with the exception of the Palantir icon that lets you play any one card. Then, an Army card lets you move any two separate Armies, or attack with one.
