If one of the Ents cards in the 2nd Edition is played by the FP to attack Orthanc and there is only Saruman present at the start of the attack-ie no shadow army units, is Saruman killed and eliminated?

If there are no shadow units in the stronghold there is no attack. The Free Peoples army would just move into the stronghold, and take control of it. The only way to kill Saruman in this situation is to have a companion in Fangorn, and Gandalf the White is in play. Then you could play that Ent card and kill him>

Hi, I am referring to the cards -The Ents awake-Entmoot, Treebeard and Huorns. So a SP army does not need to be eliminated to fulfil the statement- 'If Saruman is in Orthanc without a shadow army, eliminate him.'

Yes, If Saruman is without an army, and a Ent card is played, There is no need to roll the dice. He is automatically eliminated.

So if Saruman is eliminated from Isengard, using the Ent cards, what happens to his armies that are still on the board? Are they too eliminated as in the book?

Nothing happens to them, except that their Elites no longer function as Leaders.
