We played the collectors edition again which includes Twilight of the third age.
1. Balrog was played, fellowship declares itself to move to Lorien from Rivendell. It passes through Moria with the Balrog so a hunt tile needs to be drswn. It's the 1st Smeagol tile. Smeagol is eliminated when the FS is declared in a free peoples city or stronghold...but I think we played it ok. I thought as declaring is done PRIOR to drawing the Smeagol tile and hence making Smeagol the guide, the declaring is only valid when Smeagol already IS the guide. Hope I was right...? My friend thought as the tile was drawn PRIOR to the FS arriving in Lorien, I would have to eliminate Smeagol immediately and the "we shall get it" card would enter play...I thought not.
2. Lady Galadriel. She's a companion for battle cards. So she's a character by nature. Event cards that state "in the first round of combat the free peoples cannot play a combat card unless a COMPANION is present". This does then NOT indicate Galadriel I believe? In my view, only battles cards that state i.e. "use any number of companions and the SP has X dices less to throw with". In this case yes she is a companion. And the level 3 companion she is means to combine with combat cards like; "eliminate a companion to reduce the number of hits you got against you in battle by the level they have". ?
3. Dale was attacked, the North was not at war yet after that and 1 North unit survived so could retreat, I believe I can retreat in that special case to Erebor even though the Dwarves are not at war either yet. What happens to that North unit in Erebor if Erebor is attacked after that? What if it survives again and moves to the Iron hills as that is the only retreat place possible? What if I had another neutral retreat region to retreat to, am I forced to take that one or can I choose to still move that not at war unit into the borders of a not at war nation? Can an army made up of several units that are attacked and none or only a few are yet at war retreat units to different regions following the rules? So i.e. we have 1 army of dwarves and North units east of Dale in a neutral region. The Shadow attacks that army, but none yet come to war. Can I retreat the dwarves of that army to the Iron hills and the North units of that army back to Dale? What if I play a combat card that states "pull the army back to a free region" ?
4. I had Smeagol as guide as that tile was drawn. I lost last time as Smeagol was eliminated and the "we shall get it" card entered play and the SP used it when he draw the -2 special tile while on the Mordor track, so I wanted to try everything to make sure that card did NOT enter play again. Only way is that Smeagol is the last companion left and he is auto-replaced by Gollum. I had Gimli and Pippin left in the FS. I drew a card to seperate one or a group of companions. I played it with an event action die and seperated both Gimli and Pippin. After that, Smeagol was the last one left and was replaced immediately by Gollum. Can this be played in this way? It can then also be done by using a character die.
Thanks!!!
