Answers kindly appreciated:
1. There's an event card allowing the SP to recurit additional units in regions that already contain at least 1 unit. Does this apply to original controlled SP settlement regions only or can these units be recruited anywhere on the board where SP units are found as an exception to recruitment rules?
2. Gandalf the Grey special ability permits you to draw an additional event card when an event die is used to draw a card. Does this include Will of the West changed to event die? Assuming that it does not include character/army dice used to draw event cards.
3. When an army moves into a region and the defending forced retreats into a siege without battling this is still considered an Attack for the purpose of advancing the political track and consumes a leader/army die as an Attack and not a Move?
4. In Mordor I'm assuming that hunt tiles drawn are not put back into the pool. What happens in the case where no hunt tiles are left to draw?
Awesome game. Can't believe it's not ranked higher in BGG. Thanks.

Welcome, wazza!
1. They can be recruited in any region where there is a Shadow unit.
2. You mean play an Event card. Yes, Will of the Wests used as Event dice do count. Whenever you use a Will of the West as a different result, it behaves in exactly the same way as if you used a "natural" result of that type. Any other die result used to play a card does not count.
3. Yes.
4. All of the Standard (biege) tiles are put back into the Hunt Pool (unless they have been permantently removed by a game effect such as the Challenge of the King Event card).

Thanks!
If I have some companions besieged in a FP stronghold and sortie using an army roll with all units only (to get them killed off) does this automatically end the siege under SP control and allow my now unaccompanied companions to leave the region and go on their merry way unmolested?

No. Unless you leave at least one Army unit in the Stronghold as a rearguard, all of the Companions must attack with the Army. However, you are correct in that if the entire Free Peoples Army dies in the sortie (along with the Companions), the Shadow will gain control of the Stronghold, unless the Shadow Army is also destroyed.
