This is the best 'Lord of the Rings' game so far.
A complete version of just the good stuff would make money.
The basic game should include the expansion, but not the expansion sub games.
The extra games are just not as good as main game.
'Can I look at the back of your cards?' is a bad question to ask.
All Shadow card backs should be the same red design and colour.
All Free card backs should be the same blue design and colour.
Which expansion they are from, and how worn they are should not play a part in the game. The number of cards should be public, what they are should not.
Sometimes, I look at your library and can tell you what you are about to draw, this is wrong.
Sometimes, I can pick my combat card based on what your card looks like.
eg, no 'scouts' because it is an expansion card, so I will play deadly strife. OR . They might be playing scouts (right cardback) so I will play 'Swarm of Bats'
Resizing up the cards would help the blind among us read the words, and they are too small to fit any card sleeves I can find. A physically bigger card would be good. With sleeves in the box would be great. The cards being presleeved would be best. ;D
Simple card holders would be lovely too, like from Memoir 44.
And "We prove better than written" must be fixed.
Hey, my call is 'magic geek', I understand cardboard.
The rules need to be compiled into 1 volume, built up from scratch. There is just something wrong with them, but it is hard to explain. All the information is out there, it is just there, somewhere.
The rules book can be longer without being more intimidating.
Listing every single card effect and saying all peculiarities would help. With examples. This would be a thankless and painful task. How the hobbits separating interacts with Gollum is interesting to explain, and justify to a new player. Having a list of the quirky exceptions in the box would really help.
The Nazgul need a much heavier base. They are beautiful pieces that deserve to be upright.
Tall Dwarves look silly. Not sure if the piece should be replaced, mostly because of the 'By What?' question.
The Balrog should be a Much Larger Miniature, preferably with platforms inbuilt for other miniatures to be placed. The Descent red dragon without wings is good. And Smeagol should get a piece.
Treebeard is Too Small.
Actually all of the Ents are too small, but it really doesn't matter. Non Treebeard Ents just don't seem to see play very often. Sometimes an Ent gets to the Fords, or next to Lorien, but that is the only time any ents seem to end up on my board.
Anyhoo, the upshot is that upsizing all of the rest of the Ents is utterly pointless. But making Treebeard actually tall would seem a good idea. Nazgul tall I mean.
The Ents are Neutral, so why are they Blue? The Ents should be Green.
All of the components must fit inside one box the size of the original.
Each of the components of the game should come prepacked into its own presized "Tupperware" container. Perhaps a list of components could be moulded into the lid, complete with setup map. I could give a new player a box and say 'use the lid'.
The massive amount of ownership markers are simply not needed.
The replacement counters are not needed.
The entire FSP circle counters are not needed. The only time they are useful is when a random is being taken for corruption. And even then, he only time they are REALLY useful is the first time because rolling a six sided dice while looking at 7 figures is too hard for most people.
Putting a 'crowned' counter UNDER strider is STOOPID in so many ways.
'Hah! Caught you!, the crown is back in Dol Amroth so you cant be the King in Pelagir!' Luckily, there was a Hobbit to wear the crown in Dol Amroth so ya still get the die
The map is great, changing it would be expensive, time consuming, and require playtesting if any of the areas changed, so dont.
I would like to add a 'Shadow Army' box. Large armies fit because they are represented solely by the Witch King. Currently we do this by putting the big army on the RinG bit of the Logo, so I suppose that would be largely pointless.
[glow=red,2,300]Cost[/glow]
These changes add very little to the production cost to the next version. Containers, card size and card sleeves are lovely touches but may price themselves out. Any map change is unlikely.
Putting cards in sleeves and miniatures in boxes takes time, so the labour cost may be too high. Then again, this is Chinese labour costs, so maybe not. (my real life job tells me this is affordable)
There are few expansion miniatures to include, and the rules and board are the same so there is no need to playtest anything.
This is an easy way to make a lot of money, wish I could figure out how I make some out of it.
